PawzNDogz is an immigrant woman led, family owned Canadian premium pet brand, based in Acton that specializes in canine enriching, mentally stimulating, high-quality durable snuffle mats. As the "snuffling experts" in the pet industry, it’s earned them numerous accolades including the 2024 Pet Innovation Award for Pet Stress Relief.
Founder and owner, Smriti Pratishruti, shares the inspiration behind launching PawzNDogz
.
“Our story begins towards the end of 2019. I had dedicated my life in the corporate sector in IT, non-profit and retail, having lived in India, United States, and now Canada. I had the idea of starting a business, but we were unsure on how to proceed. Being an immigrant with no relevant connections, friends in the industry, it was challenging.
If there was anything else that I knew outside of my professional background was 'DOGS'. So it was a pretty obvious choice of industry. We finally took the leap of faith and conceived PawzNDogz in October 2019. We started off as a solution oriented, premium dog boutique with generic products to test the waters and of course ourselves.
Being the very first business venture of our lives, it was a daunting challenge but this gave us the opportunity to understand the consumer behaviour, price points, trends, product niche etc.
Being dog parents ourselves, we had always wanted to create a product to help stimulate the mind of our dog while keeping her agile. And that’s when this idea struck us! After months of pondering, observing the upcoming pet trends and after having learned the unparalleled love that most pet parents have for their furry friends, we decided that it was time to create something to help our fur babies live their best lives!

With my background in the fields of pre-med, computer science engineering and MBA coupled with the unbounded love I have for dogs, my partner and I spent endless hours researching and taking feedback from customers to understand what works in the market and what pa(w)rents are looking for, which led us to making thoughtfully designed snuffle mats which are now a crowd favourite!
We decided to harness a very specific niche of "Olfactory Canine Enrichment", aka, snuffle mats.

“We almost tried Judge.me but the customer service of Fera held us back. They were able to sort out the reviews migration from Wix to Shopify. Every review is priceless and we did not wish to lose to a single review and the prices were also competitive with Judge.me.”
